The Kodak Pulse 7-inch digital frame combines the sleek look of a digital photo frame with the convenience of a wireless connection. You can snag photos from your phone, computer, social networking page and online photo albums to share on your digital frame. The Kodak Pulse is our TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award winner because it gives you a couple sharing options, a touchscreen, helpful technical support and is compatible with many types of memory cards.
The wireless digital picture frame makes displaying your photos even more convenient. You can share pictures from Facebook and Kodak Gallery on your Kodak Pulse. The only thing we didn't like about the Facebook option is that you can't choose which pictures appear. They display randomly from you and your friend's profile accounts. Another frustration is that you can only have 100 pictures from Facebook on your digital frame at one time. In order to get new Facebook pictures on your frame, you must disable Facebook and then set it up again.
The Kodak Pulse is compatible with SD, SDHC, MMC, XD, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick Pro Duo flash memory cards. The digital frame has a USB port and unlimited online storage. This digital photo frame accepts photos in JPEG and EXIF formatting. The file options aren't as diverse as other wireless digital picture frames we reviewed. The Kodak Pulse comes with 512MB of internal memory. Most of the other digital frames we reviewed have roughly twice that amount of internal memory.
In order to activate the Kodak Pulse digital frame, you'll need to visit the Kodak website and create an account. If you plan to send the frame as a present, you can activate the frame as long as you have the activation code. You can use the six-character activation code that appears on the frame's screen once you connect it to the wireless network or the 12-character activation code on the product packaging.
The Kodak Pulse digital frame keeps track of email addresses so you can send photos easily. It has an onscreen menu and allows you to customize playlists. You can set up the frame to turn off automatically and to send notifications when new images arrive.
The LED screen on the Kodak Pulse wireless digital photo frame is 7 inches diagonally. It sits in a frame that measures 7.5 x 6.1 x 1 inches. The aspect ratio of the screen is 4:3, and it has a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. To add to the convenience, this digital frame has a touchscreen. It comes with a stand to rest the frame in. You can also purchase the digital frame in a larger size, with a 10.3-inch screen. The back of the frame has a large Kodak logo, a power button, activity sensors, a button to check the Wi-Fi signal and an enclosed compartment that houses memory-card slots and a USB port.
This digital frame does what it's supposed to – it shows off pictures that it receives from the wireless connection. It doesn't come with bells and whistles that you'll find on other wireless digital picture frames, such as horoscopes, weather information, historical facts or sports.
You can adjust the amount of time each picture is on the screen, from three seconds to 30 minutes. There's also a smart option where the pictures initially rotate through quickly but slowly increase in duration on the screen up to 30 minutes. This allows you to see all your photos quickly and then to have more and more time to enjoy them individually. You can also determine the transitions in between photos. The options include wide, fade, and zoom and pan. You can even display multiple pictures on the screen at the same time in collage form on your Kodak Pulse. If you decide you don't want certain pictures on your frame, you can delete them.
This product comes with a power cable for you to plug in, but since it is wireless, you don't need an Ethernet cable to connect to the internet. No remote is included. Several of the other products we reviewed come with remotes, which adds convenience but isn't necessary.
Kodak has email and telephone support, as well as live chat support online. You can check FAQs and read the printed manual on the company's website. The Kodak Pulse manual walks you through the process of setting up your frame, including establishing the Wi-Fi connection. Unlike some digital frames, this wireless digital photo frame doesn't have any software you have to download. The Kodak Pulse also comes with a one-year limited warranty.
The Kodak Pulse is a digital frame with a touchscreen. It has a wireless connection to the internet. With the internet connection, you can email photos from anywhere in the world and they'll go directly to the frame. Once you have them on your frame, you can enjoy them in intervals you select and with several transition options. The Kodak Pulse has a nice screen resolution and a stand to prop up your digital picture frame on a table so that you can show off what makes you proud.
Pros
This digital frame has a touchscreen, which can make navigating through menu options easier than frames with buttons on the back.
Cons
Although you can have Facebook photos on your digital frame, you can't choose which ones display.
The Kodak Pulse doesn't display extras such as sports and news, but it does show off photos you've received via Wi-Fi.
